Covid 19: Update from British Gymnastics
Update from British Gymnastics
With the changes announced this week we understand that there might be questions about when clubs would reopen. We are sharing the guidance from British Gymnastics received this week.
We felt that you would find it useful to be in the loop on the guidance and also to know that BG are actively working on a way forward for our sport.
Stay Safe

Dear Member Club,
Last night the UK Government outlined their conditional plan into the steps they will take to gradually lift the lockdown restrictions put in place to limit the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19). We understand and acknowledge there will be minor differences across the home nations, however what is clear is there is no change for our sport, our clubs must remain closed at this time to keep our members and their families safe.
While we are all keen to get back to the sport we love, it is clear this is just one stage in a long journey. We’re working across sport, with the Government and with other national governing bodies to discuss the impact of the virus on the sports sector and to map out the support required when restrictions are lifted. There are some outdoor sports that can now get back into training, however that is not true for gymnastics. Gymnastics is an indoor coached sport, classes cannot be safely carried out outdoors and government social distancing restrictions mean that clubs should continue as they are now until new guidance becomes available.
We must be patient. Safety and safeguarding are paramount, and therefore, we encourage you to continue to stay in touch with members through video and British Gymnastics created or endorsed activity to keep gymnasts fit, healthy and engaged in the safety of their home.
Online Training Updated
Thank You To Our Members
It’s nearly the end of the month and we are thrilled that Wetherby Gymnastics Club continues to operate strongly through its home training programme. We would like to thank our members for working with us during this time and keeping the positive club spirit going.
Our gymnasts have been completing their online training with vigour and we want to thank them for their commitment to the sport and the club.
We are equally fortunate in our impassioned volunteer coaches who keep the ideas and effort running unseen, operating behind the scenes. We thank them for their enthusiasm.
We finally would like to thank the unsung heroes of the triangle, our parents. We were fortunate enough to be able to reduce our fees to the nominal amount of £5 per month during this period and are thrilled that every one of you have chosen to keep your gymnasts as members. Not only that, you support the gymnasts daily with their online conditioning and activities as well as helping them to stay in touch with us and each other.
We are proud of you all and can’t wait to see the extended family of Wetherby Gymnastics Club back together in the gym.
Thank you and stay safe.

CORONAVIRUS UPDATE
Sadly last week, like other gymnastics clubs in the country, in order to keep our members safe and well we had to close our doors temporarily.
Fortunately, in these exceptional times we have exceptional members, who recognise the need to strictly follow the government guidelines for the benefit of all.
We may not be able to meet physically at the moment however we continue as a club. We will be posting training support in our online members section over the coming days and look forward to when we can back to business as usual.
To all of our members, the wider gymnastics community and the UK population in general, we say
Stay Well, Stay Safe, Stay Home.
