Fab start to the weekend with ALL Wetherby regional grade 3 gymnasts achieving distinction.
7 distinctions, 3 medals, 2 ribbons and not forgetting 3 very proud coaches!
Tuesday the 21st April is the first beginners class of the summer term 2015.
I wish all the children attending their first session of the new term an evening packed full of knowledge and fun!

I am very pleased to announce the winners of this years photo competition.

The seniors started the last competition of 2014 in style placing 4th overall .
Individually they achieved:
Emily F placed 7th on beam and performed her first roundoff flick.
Ruby placed 4th on floor in her very first gymnastics competition.
Nadine placed 6th on floor.
Emily W placed 8th on floor.
Even though the girls train in 3 different groups the team were positive, supportive and enjoyed the experience together.
The level 6 junior team faced stiff opposition to place 11th out of 20 teams.
Considering the age and experience of the team the coaching team were pleased with the result.
All team members performed roundoff flicks and squat on high bar routines successful in competition.

On the 22nd November Wetherby Gymnastics Club achieved a clean sweep at the Yorkshire Team Competitions at Catterick Leisure Centre. Wetherby Gymnasts competed in all four levels of competition level 5, Level 4, Level 3 and the top level in gymnastics FIG. 23 Wetherby girls competed across the four pieces of Women’s Artistic Gymnastics, Vault, Bar, Beam and Floor.
Wetherby Gymnastics Club now proudly holds the trophies from each of the four competitions for 2014.
.
The club has been running for over 40 years and has built a reputation for success under the 4 head coaches in that time. The recently appointed new Head Coach, Eva, a former Wetherby and England gymnast said,
“ I am so proud of the girls and their performances. Wetherby Gymnasts always believe in their determination and desire to perform with heart and soul to the best of their ability. These results demonstrate that the gymnasts continue to build on the history and success of the club. It is a privilege to be able to lead such a dedicated group of gymnasts.”
The results continue to display the club’s position as one of the most successful gymnastics clubs in the region and the girls and coaches are looking forward to a successful 2015.

Thank you
Congratulations to the five girls who were first up today representing Wetherby at the Yorkshire Gymnastics competition this weekend. Everyone got a medal and reaped the rewards for the all the hard work over the recent months, very impressive considering some girls were competing for the first time at Level 4.

On Saturday 19th of July, the whole club was invited to ‘Hit the beach’ and have fun in Filey.
We arranged to meet on the beach at 11, marking our spot by writing ‘Wetherby Gym’ in the sand. Over 50 from our club showed up, despite the grey clouds.
We were very lucky with the weather and had little rain (until 4:30, when it started to rain heavily causing the few remaining people to get soaked!). The grey clouds didn’t ruin our fun though and most of the gymnasts and siblings were in swimwear or shorts within the first hour!
Some people started work on a giant sand castle with a moat. Others decided to risk it and go in the sea, me being one! Knowing the water was going to be freezing a group of the older girls all ran in but it didn’t help that much, it was still ice cold. The younger girls soon joined in, even Isabeal the youngest gymnast, came in and the older girls helped when the big waves came.
Following the ice cold water was full blown sunshine. Some of my gym friends chose to take advantage of the sun to tan, others started to eat, either from the picnic they brought with them or from the cafe on the front. I chose to buy some chips and they were delicious, but I already knew this after stealing some of Louise’s who hit the beach despite her ankle pot!
It must be the temptation of eating someone else’s chips as Eva decided to pinch some of mine. It was after lunch that people started to go home, however some chose to stay and had another swim in sea, which wasn’t any warmer, as we could tell from Tilly’s blue lips.
When it got to 4pm and only a few people remained we all started to pack up, well the parents did while the gymnasts played handball and handstands.
That’s when it really started to rain. When we realised it wasn’t going to stop any time soon me, my mum, Sydney, Nichola, Eva, Emily and Emily’s dad chose to take cover in the cafe and have warm drinks, apart from Sydney who decided to have a slushy, typical Sydney!
So apart from the little bit of rain, that didn’t spoil any fun, the trip to Filey was really fun and successful, definitely something I would like to do next year!
